Good Food Award 2021 'Death To Ego IPA' WINS!!

We are very proud to announce that Alewife Brewing’s ‘Death To Ego” IPA is the winner of a 2021 Good Food Award. Chosen out of nearly 2,000 entries in a blind tasting held in San Francisco, CA. In anticipation of the awards announcement January 22nd, 2021 we have brewed a super fresh batch or Death To Ego for distribution and for enjoyment at our recently opened, socially distanced outdoor taproom in Sunnyside, Queens. We hope you will come and enjoy a few with us on premise and/or take some 4 packs to go. The beer will be distributed throughout NYC, Westchester and Long Island and we offer home delivery in the same footprint. Go to www.alewife.beer to sign up and for details.

While building our brewery in Sunnyside we reused and repurposed existing walls and wood to build the brewery walls as well as utilizing the steel cradles our brewhouse and tanks arrived on to build our taproom bar. The brainchild of owner/founder Patrick Donagher, the bar features a very temperate concrete bar top. We are also reutilizing other existing equipment from our old location and left behind in our new location.

Additionally, Alewife Brewing maintains a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in hiring. Currently exactly 50% of our staff employees are women including co-founder Roz Rochard Donagher, who’s family hails from Trinidad. Once fully operational we are hopeful to employ a staff that reflects the rich diversity of the Sunnyside neighborhood where we have built our home. For information on job opportunities please explore our website www.alewife.beer The above criteria along with the highest quality craft product brought us this year’s award.

Brewed with the highest quality ingredients sought by Alewife brewer Keir Hamilton, Death To Ego is double dry-hopped with copius amounts of Azacca, Centennial & El Dorado hops which create a romantic melody of flavor with notes of apricot, mango, pineapple and grapefruit. A well ballanced IPA that has the hops, not the bite. 6.2% ABV – IBU 54 - Can art by Seldon Hunt.

Good Food Mission:

“For a long time, certifications for responsible practices and awards for superior taste have remained distinct – one honors social and environmental responsibility, while the other celebrates craftsmanship and flavor. The Good Food Awards recognizes that

truly good food – the kind that brings people together and builds strong, healthy communities – contains all of these ingredients.

Each January, the Good Food Foundation organizes an epic three-day Good Food Awards Weekend for the public and the trade to meet, celebrate, taste and buy from the nearly 200 Winners: the exceptional food crafters who top the charts in a Blind Tasting and meet the environmental and social responsibility standards of the Good Food Awards. Over 2,000 entries from all 50 states are submitted each year. While this year presents some unique challenges to our traditional format for tasting entrants and publicly honoring the winners, we remain as committed as ever to celebrating American makers in a virtual format.

We invite you to explore our standards, make a submission and discover the winners. Join us in recognizing the contributions of American craft food producers in creating a tasty, authentic and responsible food system.”
